The assessment scheme for CBSE Class 12 students has been announced. In a circular issued by the board on March 27, the board detailed how the final grade will be calculated.
In subjects where students have appeared for their examinations, their actual performance can be taken into account for declaration of results.
However, in subjects, where examinations have not been conducted, the final grade will be based on practical or internal assessment and theory examinations.

The announcement came after CBSE cancelled all Class 12 board exams scheduled from March 16 to April 10 for students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The decision to cancel came after a series of postponements triggered by the ongoing regional conflict due to the US-Israel-Iran war.
How marks will be calculated
For subjects with theory marks of 80 or 70 — such as Mathematics, English, History, and Biology — schools must submit students’ scores from three internal tests: the quarterly exam, the half-yearly exam, and the final Pre-Board exam. The best score among the three will be used to calculate the final result.
For skill-based subjects where the maximum theory marks are 60, 50, or 30 — Information Technology, Tourism, and Design — only the final Pre-Board exam score will be counted. If a student was absent for the final Pre-Board, the score from the previous exam will be used instead.
Students who sat for all their registered exams before the cancellations will have their results declared based on their actual exam performance.
Final results
Schools have from April 6 to April 13 to calculate the final grades of its students and upload them on a platform provided by CBSE. The board has made clear that once marks are uploaded, they cannot be changed. Schools are expected to upload scores without any bias towards any student.
If a candidate is unhappy with the result, the board may offer a fresh set of examinations. However, this will happen only if conditions are favorable. If such exams are held, the marks obtained in those tests will be treated as final.
Results for these students will be declared alongside results for all other CBSE Class 12 students.
