Eastern and southern regions could see afternoon showers today, while stronger winds and more rain are expected over the weekend.

Dubai: Prepare for blowing dust and high temperatures today. But if you’re in the eastern or southern parts of the UAE, enjoy a respite from sunny days, as you’re likely to experience rainfall.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts fair to partly cloudy weather today, with a chance of convective cloud formation by the afternoon over some eastern and southern areas, associated with rainfall.

    Hot day ahead

Temperatures, however, continue to remain high across the UAE.

The NCM forecasts coastal and island areas to record highs of 42°C to 47°C, while internal areas will range between 45°C and 50°C. Even mountainous regions, usually cooler, will experience highs of between 35°C and 40°C today.

Among major cities, Abu Dhabi will see a peak of 46°C, while Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah will see highs of 44°C. Sharjah is reaching 43°C and Fujairah will be slightly cooler at 39°C.

    Blowing dust but calm seas

The NCM expects light to moderate winds today, freshening at times, and averaging speeds of 10 to 25km/h. However, at times, their speed could increase to 40km/h and kick up dust, especially in exposed areas and desert regions. Be cautious when driving in such conditions, as it may cause reduced visibility.

Sea conditions are expected to remain calm today, along both the eastern and western coastlines. The Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will see slight sea conditions, according to the NCM, with gentle waves reaching heights of two feet on-shore, and three feet off-shore.

    Weekend outlook

As the weekend rolls around, wind speeds are expected to become stronger and increase to 50km/h at times, causing gusts of blowing dust, and bringing clouds over eastern and southern regions of the UAE. Due to convective cloud formation, you can expect more rainfall in these areas on Saturday and Sunday.

Here is the complete breakdown of minimum and maximum temperatures across the Emirates today:

Maximum Temp (°C) Minimum Temp (°C)

    Dubai 44°C 36°C

    Abu Dhabi 46°C 34°C

    Al Ain 47°C 35°C

    Sharjah 43°C 31°C

    Ajman 41°C 36°C

    Fujairah 39°C 33°C

    Ras Al Khaimah 44°C 32°C

    Umm Al Quwain 42°C 29°C

    Liwa 48°C 31°C
