New direct shipping route between Shenzhen and Khorfakkan cuts transit times and strengthens UAE’s role as a regional logistics hub for new energy vehicles
Sharjah: Khorfakkan Port, operated by the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, is set to receive a record shipment of 6,068 new energy vehicles manufactured by Chinese automotive giant BYD, marking a milestone in growing trade links between the UAE and China.
The vehicles are being transported aboard a large roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel that departed from Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen, launching a new direct maritime shipping route between the two ports.
The new route is expected to provide a strategic logistics corridor for Chinese exports to the UAE and the wider Middle East, helping reduce shipping times by three to five days compared with existing routes.
Officials said the direct connection will also minimise potential disruptions in the transportation of vehicles and heavy equipment, enhancing supply chain efficiency and reliability.
The shipment destined for Khorfakkan Port has also set a new record for Xiaomo Port, becoming the largest single vehicle shipment handled by the Chinese port.
The development further strengthens Khorfakkan Port’s position as an important regional gateway for automotive imports and trade, while supporting growing demand for electric and new energy vehicles across Middle Eastern markets.
