UAE weather today: Dubai’s 42°C will feel like 47°C as humidity reaches 90%

Dubai: If you’re feeling sticky the moment you step outdoors, it’s because today’s hot weather is being compounded by high humidity.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts fair to partly cloudy weather, with a probability of some convective cloud formation eastward by afternoon, associated with rainfall.

Humid conditions

However, relative humidity (RH) is on the rise, reaching up to 90% in coastal and inland areas by nighttime and on Thursday morning. This means the Comfort Index (CI) will be higher by five degrees, making it feel warmer than it actually is. For instance, Dubai’s peak temperature of 42°C today will feel like 47°C.

The NCM cautions there is a high chance of mist formation over some coastal and internal areas overnight and early tomorrow. Be careful if you are driving in these conditions, as visibility may be impacted.

Temperatures in the low-40s

With the start of September and the end of meteorological summer, you can expect temperatures to start reducing gradually over the month, according to the NCM.

Sharjah will reach 44°C today, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain will see 43°C temperatures, Dubai and Ajman will peak at 42°C, while Abu Dhabi will see a high of 41°C. Fujairah will be relatively cooler, at 35°C.

Coastal and island regions are set to experience highs between 37°C and 42°C, while internal regions will be warmer, at 41°C to 47°C.

Rougher sea conditions

Light to moderate northwesterly to southwesterly winds, freshening at times, are expected to cause blowing dust westward, according to the NCM. Here are the sea conditions along UAE’s coasts:

Arabian Gulf: Slight to moderate conditions in the Arabian Gulf, becoming rough at times westwards. You can expect waves reaching heights of two feet on-shore and up to six feet off-shore.

Sea of Oman: Slight to moderate conditions in the Sea of Oman, becoming rough at times, with waves reaching heights of two feet on-shore and up to six feet off-shore.
