Dubai Traffic Court fines motorcyclist Dh4,000 and suspends licence for three months after crash involving negligent driving and riding an unregistered, uninsured motorcycle
The Dubai Traffic Court fined a motorcyclist Dh4,000 and suspended his driving licence for three months after his negligence caused a motorcycle accident. Investigations later revealed that the motorcycle’s registration and insurance had expired, turning what initially appeared to be a traffic accident into multiple violations that ended up before the courts.
The case began after the operations room received a report about a motorcycle accident. A traffic patrol was dispatched to the scene and conducted an inspection and prepared an accident report. Investigations found that the rider lost control of the motorcycle due to a sudden deviation and lack of attention while driving, causing the vehicle to overturn. The rider sustained moderate injuries, while the motorcycle suffered material damage.
Further investigations showed that the incident was not limited to driver negligence. Authorities found that the motorcycle’s registration and insurance policy had expired days before the accident. As a result, the rider faced three charges: negligent driving, causing damage to property, driving a vehicle with an expired registration, and driving an uninsured vehicle on a public road.
The court said the evidence was consistent and comprehensive, including the inspection report, the accident scene diagram and the defendant’s confession to police and later before the court.
It added that evidence of negligent driving, along with the expired registration and insurance at the time of the accident, proved the charges against the defendant, particularly as he did not dispute the facts and instead requested leniency.
The court said it had taken a lenient view of the case in light of the circumstances. It imposed a fine of Dh3,000 for negligent driving and causing damage to property, Dh500 for driving a vehicle with an expired registration, and Dh500 for driving without valid insurance, bringing the total fine to Dh4,000. The rider’s driving licence was also suspended for three months.
