Temperatures hold in the low-40s as the NCM forecasts near-saturated air through Monday, but calm seas make evening beach swims a cooling option
Dubai: The past few days have been moist and sticky, and today looks no different – humidity is at a high, and it’s expected to stay that way, all weekend long.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), today’s weather will be fair to partly cloudy, with low clouds appearing over the eastern coast.
Humid nights, hot days
The relative humidity (RH) is peaking at 95% along coastal regions by night, and at 90% in internal areas, according to the NCM. This means there is a high probability of fog tonight and tomorrow morning, in cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which lie along the coast.
The NCM advises driving carefully in such conditions, as there may be a drop in visibility.
Meanwhile, temperatures continue to remain in the low-40s across the UAE.
According to the NCM, coastal and island regions will experience highs between 38°C and 43°C, while internal regions will be warmer, at 41°C to 46°C today.
Abu Dhabi, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah will reach 41°C today, while Dubai and Sharjah will experience 40°C temperatures. Ajman will see a high of 39°C, while Fujairah will be slightly cooler at 38°C.
Moderate sea conditions
The NCM forecasts light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly winds, freshening at times, and reaching speeds of up to 30km/h.
With the gentle breeze, the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to remain calm, as well. Wave heights are expected to reach up to two feet on-shore and up to three feet off-shore.
Weekend outlook
The NCM forecasts similar weather patterns for the weekend ahead. Humidity is expected to continue at near-saturated RH levels of 95% along the coast, meaning it’s going to be clammy and difficult to cool down, if you’re spending time outdoors in places like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The NCM advises taking precautionary measures by staying hydrated and limiting exposure outdoors, when possible. Sea conditions are going to stay calm through to Monday, if you’re planning on an evening swim to cool off.
