Dubai: The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have advised Indian nationals travelling to or residing in the UAE to ensure they have adequate medical insurance.

In an advisory issued on October 27, the missions said they had received several instances of Indian nationals facing unforeseen illnesses or medical emergencies that resulted in substantial medical bills beyond the financial capacity of patients or their families because of inadequate insurance coverage.

Indian nationals travelling to the UAE for visits or tourism have been advised to obtain appropriate medical insurance before starting their journey.

The advisory said the insurance should include cashless facilities and cover the cost of medical repatriation to India in the event of an unforeseen medical emergency.

Indian nationals residing in the UAE on employment visas, as well as dependants, have also been advised to check their existing medical insurance.

The missions urged residents to ensure their policies provide adequate cover for medical expenses in the UAE as well as medical repatriation to India.
