Watch: Rains sweep across Abu Dhabi, Dubai amid unstable weather conditions

Rainy conditions are affecting the country today, with skies ranging from partly cloudy to cloudy and convective cloud formation bringing a chance of rainfall in scattered areas, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

The NCM has issued an orange alert as cloud build-up, combined with active to strong winds lifting dust and sand, is expected to reduce horizontal visibility between 8pm and 10pm.

Residents across the UAE are set to experience a week of unstable weather, with rain, thunderstorms, and a chance of hail forecast in some areas, according to the NCM.

In its latest outlook for March 21 to 27, the NCM said the country will be impacted by atmospheric instability as cloud systems move in from the west. These conditions are likely to lead to the development of convective clouds across different regions, bringing intermittent rainfall of varying intensity.

The authority also warned of possible thunder and lightning in some areas, with a chance of hail in limited locations.

On Thursday, NCEMA said it is taking proactive steps to prepare for the unsettled conditions and closely assess the situation. The authority added that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Interior, NCM, and other key entities to monitor developments and ensure business continuity plans remain in place.

The Ministry of Interior offered safety tips for navigating the unstable weather, advising the public to stay cautious, reduce speed on roads, avoid water ponds, and steer clear of fast-moving streams and the sea.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport said it is fully prepared for the expected weather conditions, activating emergency operations centres and deploying specialised teams and equipment to maintain safety and ensure services continue without disruption.

Similar weather is expected on Sunday, with convective cloud activity bringing rainfall of varying intensity, particularly over northern and eastern areas, including Al Ain.
