The UAE is strengthening safety standards for medicines used by children while also promoting access to reliable digital health information, a top health official said ahead of Emirati Children’s Day.

Dr Fatima Al Kaabi, Director-General of the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE), said that protecting children’s health remains a national priority and that strict regulatory systems are in place to ensure the safety of medicines available in the UAE.

In a statement marking Emirati Children’s Day, observed annually on March 15, Dr Al Kaabi said the occasion provides an opportunity to reaffirm the country’s commitment to safeguarding children’s wellbeing and enhancing the quality of healthcare services available to them.

“Our children’s health is a national priority,” she said, noting that the EDE is committed to ensuring the highest safety standards for medicines intended for children in the UAE’s domestic market.

She added that these efforts form part of a wider national vision that places human health and quality of life at the centre of development.

Dr Al Kaabi also highlighted the theme of this year’s Emirati Children’s Day, ‘the right to digital knowledge.’

She said the theme emphasises the importance of helping children and parents access reliable digital health information so they can better understand the safe use of medicines.

According to the EDE, enabling families to access trustworthy information online can help promote safe medication practices and support healthier communities.

Dr Al Kaabi said the establishment pays special attention to ensuring the safety of paediatric medicines through a comprehensive regulatory framework aligned with international quality standards.

These measures also help strengthen the country’s drug security system and improve the efficiency of the healthcare sector, while encouraging innovation and flexibility in pharmaceutical policies.

She added that the UAE continues to set a strong example when it comes to investing in people and improving quality of life.

“Kids are the future, and protecting their health is a responsibility we take very seriously,” said Dr Al Kaabi.
