More than four in five car repair workshops in Ras Al Khaimah are complying with consumer protection requirements, according to the results of a recent awareness campaign conducted by the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development (RAK DED). Inspectors visited 30 workshops and repair centres. They found that 81 per cent were properly documenting agreements with customers in line with approved procedures. However, 19 per cent of establishments were issued warnings for relying on verbal agreements or phone calls without formal written documentation outlining the rights and responsibilities of both parties. Telefonica recently revealed it had reused or recycled over 4 million devices in 2025, a significant number as the operator steps up its efforts to hit its zero-waste target by 2030. The Spanish operator said 95% of its waste was reused or recycled during the year, including 3 million routers and set-top boxes. A duty officer at Sharjah Police’s emergency call centre rescued an expatriate woman after recognising that her insistence on “ordering pizza” was a disguised plea for help while she was being threatened at home.
