Power utility adds nearly 800 new 11kV substations across the emirate as it strengthens infrastructure to meet rising demand from residential, commercial and investment developments
Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) commissioned 793 new 11kV substations across Dubai during the first half of 2026, reinforcing the emirate’s electricity infrastructure to support ongoing urban expansion and economic growth.
The projects, which included construction and associated works, required a total of 624,340 man-hours and were completed in line with DEWA’s quality, efficiency and safety standards.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the utility continues to expand its infrastructure network to keep pace with the growth of residential communities, commercial centres, business districts and investment projects across Dubai.
“We continue our growth path to keep pace with the continuous expansion of new residential areas, commercial centres, investment projects and business hubs in Dubai,” Al Tayer said.
He noted that DEWA’s strategy is focused on anticipating future demand and supporting Dubai’s ambition to remain among the world’s leading cities in infrastructure development and quality of life.
Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s global performance benchmarks, noting that the utility recorded the world’s lowest customer minutes lost (CML) for electricity, averaging just 0.82 minutes per customer annually.
He added that DEWA’s electricity transmission and distribution losses remain among the lowest globally at 2%.
Expanding electricity network
Rashid bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, said the utility’s electricity distribution network continues to grow steadily.
He revealed that DEWA currently operates:
53 substations at 33kV level
47,723 medium-voltage substations operating at 11kV and 6.6kV
The latest additions form part of DEWA’s broader efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure, enhance service reliability and support sustainable economic and urban development across Dubai.
