Customer satisfaction reaches 97% as Dubai expands self-driving transport services in pursuit of its target of making 25% of journeys autonomous by 2030
Dubai: Dubai is accelerating its transition towards autonomous mobility, with robotaxi operations surpassing 4 million kilometres travelled and completing 7,613 passenger trips since launch, while achieving a customer satisfaction rate of 97%.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector and Chairman of the Autonomous Transport and Aerial Taxi Committee at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said the robotaxi service currently operates a fleet of 144 vehicles, including 48 active vehicles carrying out around 50 trips daily.
“Most notably, the service has achieved a 97% customer satisfaction rate, reflecting strong acceptance of the technology and the quality of customer experience,” Bahrozyan said.
He noted that the operational performance marks a significant step towards Dubai’s strategic goal of making 25% of all transportation trips autonomous by 2030.
The robotaxi programme is being rolled out through a phased approach designed to ensure the highest levels of safety, reliability and operational readiness. Dedicated operational zones allow autonomous driving systems to be tested and validated under real-world conditions while supporting the transition from safety-driver trials to fully driverless public transport services.
According to the RTA, the more than 4 million kilometres travelled provide a substantial operational foundation for evaluating autonomous driving performance, improving customer experience and preparing for future expansion.
Dubai is working with leading autonomous driving companies, including Baidu’s Apollo Go, WeRide and Pony.ai, to support the deployment of self-driving mobility solutions across the emirate.
The partnerships leverage advanced autonomous driving technology and fleet management expertise to facilitate the integration of driverless vehicles into Dubai’s broader transport ecosystem.
The collaborations build on agreements signed between the RTA and the three companies as part of the authority’s roadmap to introduce autonomous taxi services across the city.
In a further development, Uber Technologies recently announced that Baidu’s fully driverless Apollo Go vehicles are now available to riders through the Uber platform in Dubai, with New Horizon Luxury Transport serving as the fleet operator.
The expansion comes at a time when Dubai’s population has surpassed 4 million residents, increasing demand for convenient, efficient and technology-enabled mobility solutions.
Public transport, shared mobility services and taxis carried 348 million riders during the first half of 2026, with average daily ridership reaching 1.9 million passengers, providing a strong foundation for the continued growth of autonomous transport services.
The RTA said robotaxis are becoming an increasingly important component of Dubai’s next-generation mobility ecosystem, complementing public transport, taxis and shared mobility options.
The continued expansion of autonomous transport supports Dubai’s ambition to become a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility while advancing its target of ensuring that one in every four transportation trips is autonomous by 2030.
