Authority uses low-traffic hours to carry out repairs and infrastructure upgrades while maintaining high road network standards

Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is utilising low-traffic night hours to carry out preventive and corrective road maintenance, minimising disruption and ensuring infrastructure is ready for morning commuters.
According to the RTA, the authority maintains a 95 per cent “excellent” rating across its road network through scheduled assessments and targeted maintenance programmes.
Night-time operations include asphalt repairs, pavement rehabilitation, and the maintenance of bridges, tunnels, stormwater drainage systems, street lighting, traffic signals, road signs and safety barriers.
Under its 2026 preventive maintenance plan, the RTA rehabilitated 17 kilometres of asphalt by early June across nine major roads and six districts, covering highways, arterial roads, residential areas and cycling tracks.
The authority said pavement maintenance targets 90,000 square metres this year, up from 88,000 square metres in 2025.
Maintenance priorities are determined using automated asset-data analysis, smart diagnostic systems, field inspections, customer reports and traffic-volume indicators.
Before work begins, dedicated traffic management plans are implemented, including diversions and safety measures, to ensure all lanes are reopened before the morning peak period.
The RTA said carrying out maintenance during off-peak hours has helped accelerate infrastructure upgrades while enhancing safety and maintaining the efficiency of Dubai’s road network.
