Asian expatriate avoids jail and deportation after reconciling with victim as court overturns conviction in property damage case

An Asian expatriate avoided imprisonment and deportation after the victim pardoned him and reached a reconciliation in a case involving damage to property.

The case began when the defendant was accused of damaging or demolishing property owned by others. Following the completion of investigations, the Public Prosecution referred him to the Misdemeanours Court. The case was heard in absentia, and the court convicted him, sentencing him to one month in prison and deportation from the country.

The defendant later challenged the ruling before the same court after reaching a reconciliation with the victim. The court accepted the objection in form and substance, overturned the earlier judgment and ruled that the criminal case had lapsed due to reconciliation.
