Joint inspections uncover AED82 million in tax liabilities and penalties as authorities intensify efforts to combat tax evasion
Dubai: The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) announced that inspection campaigns conducted in cooperation with Dubai Police during the first half of 2026 resulted in the seizure of 3,587,315 non-compliant packages of excise goods and the issuance of 59 seizure reports against several establishments and individuals.
The campaigns, carried out in collaboration with the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, form part of ongoing efforts to enhance tax compliance and combat tax evasion.
According to the FTA, the total tax liabilities and penalties related to the seized goods amounted to AED82,064,198.
The results were reviewed during a joint meeting at the FTA’s Dubai headquarters attended by Abdulaziz Al Mulla, Director-General of the FTA; Sara Al Habshi, Executive Director of the Tax Compliance Sector; and representatives of the Authority. Colonel Dr. Saud Mohammed Al Khalidi, Assistant Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation for Specialised Crimes Affairs, and officials from Dubai Police also attended.
The meeting reviewed the outcomes of inspection campaigns, joint performance indicators and the latest developments in efforts to combat tax evasion and identify administrative violations.
Al Mulla said the strategic partnership with Dubai Police represents a key component of the Authority’s tax control system and praised the work of joint inspection teams in detecting violations and supporting compliance with tax legislation.
He said cooperation between the two entities, supported by the exchange of expertise and the use of modern technologies, has enhanced the efficiency of inspection and monitoring operations and strengthened the ability to detect violations and take legal action against offenders.
Al Habshi said the Authority’s efforts to combat tax evasion extend beyond inspection campaigns and include community participation through the Raqeeb platform, which enables members of the public to report suspected cases of tax evasion.
She added that the Authority is intensifying monitoring efforts to ensure taxable persons comply with tax legislation and procedures, while helping protect consumers from the circulation of taxable products that do not meet approved UAE market standards.
The FTA and Dubai Police reaffirmed their commitment to continuing joint inspection campaigns and strengthening efforts to detect excise goods on which taxes have not been paid.
The two entities said their cooperation supports higher tax compliance, improves monitoring and inspection effectiveness, and contributes to the sustainability of the UAE’s tax system.
