For many Europeans, their first stop for all things clothing, accessories, beauty products and household articles is usually the branch of an Ireland-headquartered retailer, going by the name Primark.

Specialising in fast fashion and with more than 450 stores around the world, Primark is making its entry into the United Arab Emirates, with its first store in Dubai opening at the Dubai Mall on March 26.

This store is being brought to the region through a partnership with Kuwait-based Alshaya Group.

The retailer said in an Instagram post that the store would open on March 26 at 10 am.

We list out the five factors you definitely need to know about this retailer, before you head there to fill your shopping cart. Read on:

    Stylish fashion at low prices

This one’s pretty obvious. Primark is considered an ocean for fashion: be it the latest superhero costume or the latest trends that you spotted on TikTok or Instagram on just about anything. If stores like the Chinese fast-fashion giant Shein come to mind, you aren’t far off. Primark is the place to be for heavy shopping carts that are light on the wallet.

In short, head here if you’re a price-conscious fashionista or hunting for deals.

What else is available at Primark?

The store retails a broad range of products, including beauty and makeup products, a wellness collection that comprises products made of organic, sustainable or recycled materials.

It also offers baby and infant products, be it clothes, toys or stationery. Oh, and it also retails vegan products that can play a key role in your beauty routine.

    Tell me more about Primark

Primark, according to its website, stands for offering “affordable fashion and everyday essentials that are made to last”. Founded in Ireland in 1969, it operates more than 470 stores across the US and Europe, employing more than 80,000 people.

Primark already has a story in Kuwait. Now, it is making its foray into the UAE.

Are more stores in the offing in the UAE?

Yes, according to Alshaya Group CEO John Hadden.

In an interview with RJ Kris Fade of Virgin Radio Dubai last year, he confirmed that at least three Primark stores are in the offing soon.

“We’re going to open not one, not two, but we’re going to go for three stores in Dubai in the first quarter of next year,” he said. And these are the first three spots for Primark stores, according to Hadden: “The top three malls: Dubai Mall, Mirdif City Centre and Mall of the Emirates.”

Hadden has promised the store will sell t-shirts from Dh15, and jeans at Dh50.

Fun facts that I need to know…

Primark is known as Penneys in Ireland. That brand name isn’t available outside owing to a trademark conflict with a retailer across the Atlantic: JC Penney.

Pronunciation of the store name is considered a bone of contention. While the company officially prefers the pronunciation “Pr-eye-mark” (like “spy” or “fry”), many Irish residents and staff often call it “Pree-mark”.
