Rainfall is expected to affect different parts of the UAE over the coming days, shifting across regions, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). This comes after a wet weekend that brought rain, thunder and strong winds to several parts of the UAE.

In an update issued on Sunday, the authority has outlined the areas that will receive rainfall throughout the week, noting that intensity will vary.

    Sunday
Rain is expected in the afternoon over some northeastern areas, Al Ain and southern regions. By night, showers will extend to western and southern areas, reaching inland parts.

    Monday
Scattered rainfall is forecast across the country during the day. At night, activity will focus on northern and eastern regions, including Al Ain.

    Tuesday
Rain will affect northern, eastern and southern regions during the day. By night, showers are expected over western and eastern areas, as well as coastal regions and islands.

    Wednesday
Scattered rainfall will continue across parts of the country during the day. At night, rain is expected over eastern regions and Al Ain, with chances decreasing later into the night.

    Thursday
A low chance of rain is forecast in the morning. Conditions are expected to develop in the afternoon over northern and eastern regions and Al Ain, before shifting to coastal areas, islands and western regions at night.

    Friday
Rain is expected across scattered areas during the day, beginning over islands and coastal regions before moving across most parts of the country.

Rain, alerts issued over the weekend

The forecast follows unstable weather conditions seen over the weekend. On Saturday morning, rain swept parts of the UAE, accompanied by strong winds, thunder and lightning, with water accumulation reported in some areas.

According to videos and updates shared by weather-focused social media channel Storm Centre on March 21, heavy rain was recorded in eastern regions, including Dibba Al Fujairah and Shis in Khor Fakkan, while flowing wadis were seen in mountainous areas.

The NCM also issued alerts on March 21 warning of rainfall accumulation in some coastal and internal areas, and flash flood risks over mountainous regions during periods of heavy rain.

    Safety advisory for residents

In its latest advisory, the NCM urged residents to follow safety measures during rainfall, including avoiding unnecessary travel, driving cautiously when needed, and using low-beam headlights when visibility is reduced.

Residents were also advised to follow official weather updates and avoid spreading rumours.

Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to check weather conditions before setting out and avoid areas prone to water accumulation or flowing valleys.

Authorities reiterated that entering flowing valleys is a serious offence, carrying a Dh2,000 fine, 23 traffic points and vehicle impoundment for 60 days.

    Authorities step up preparedness

Earlier, on March 19, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) said it held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Interior, the NCM and key partners to review forecasts and assess expected conditions.

The authority had warned of rainfall of varying intensity, with a chance of hail, as well as increased winds that could lead to blowing dust and reduced visibility.

It added that authorities are ensuring readiness across sectors, with safety updates to be shared through official channels.
