The Sharjah announced remote work for government employees, effective immediately until Thursday, March 26.

Sharjah Human Resources Department has authorised heads, directors general, and managers of government departments, bodies, and institutions across the emirate to implement the “work from distance” system as needed.

The decision aims to ensure business continuity while prioritising workforce safety and flexibility amid ongoing regional developments.

However, the authority clarified that the directive excludes vital jobs that require employees’ physical presence at their workplaces.

The Sharjah directive is part of a broader series of flexible working and safety measures adopted across the UAE.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) advised private sector companies across the UAE to implement remote working arrangements wherever feasible to limit employee exposure and manage workforce mobility.

Public and private schools and universities across the country also shifted to distance learning, a measure that was recently extended for an additional two weeks to ensure student safety.
