For the second time in a week, a drone attack targeted the UAE Consulate General in Iraqi Kurdistan, leaving two security personnel injured. The consulate building was also damaged in the attack, UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

UAE strongly condemned what it termed the “treacherous” drone attack, and called attention to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees full inviolability for diplomatic premises and personnel.

Such attacks on diplomatic missions and premises are a “flagrant violation” of the convention, along with all international norms and laws, the UAE ministry stressed.

UAE’s ministry called the attack a “dangerous escalation and a threat to regional security and stability.”

The country also called on the Iraq, and Kurdistan governments to investigate the attack, identify those responsible, and take all measures to hold the perpetrators accountable.

UAE’s Mofa stressed its “categorical rejection of such treacherous attacks, which aim to destabilise security and stability.

The country affirmed the necessity of protecting diplomatic premises, missions, and their personnel in accordance with international laws and norms.

This is the second attack on the building in a week; earlier, on March 10, a drone attack targeted the UAE Consulate General in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, resulting in material damage. No injuries were reported. UAE condemned the “unprovoked terrorist drone attack.”
