Dubai: Saeed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has confirmed that energy prices in Dubai will not increase as the emirate expands its use of clean energy.

Responding to a question, Al Tayer said DEWA continues to develop solar energy and storage projects to enhance the efficiency of the energy system.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Green Economy Summit, he said the authority is moving ahead with a number of clean energy projects in Dubai in the next phase.

Al Tayer said implementation at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is accelerating, with its targeted capacity for 2030 increased from 5,000MW to 8,000MW. Estimates for reductions in carbon dioxide emissions have also risen from 6.5 million tonnes to about 8 million tonnes by the same year.

He added that DEWA will announce in November the results of project awards that he described as being among the largest in the world in the energy sector. These include solar energy projects and storage systems, with work on the projects having begun about three years ago.
